Good news first: Topher’s been cleared to return home from the hospital. Now the bad news: McCauley suffered a mini-hymen tear, ruptured an ovary and busted his uterus on Monday night, collapsing onto the ice in Walpole against the Herd.
The Penguins player fell
to the ice while skating lackadaisically around the rink and “not-scoring”
during the 2nd period of last night’s game.
Topher was reportedly tested at the hospital Monday night for a
transient pagina attack (TPA). TPA is considered a "warning" and
occurs when testosterone levels are at an all-time low. It can be self-induced.
The team didn't confirm
that but did say on Monday that Topher was "alert, coherent and had less
cramping."
"Our primary concern
is, of course, with Topher's health and well-being,” Penguins general manager
Rick Summers said in the statement. “There have been so many people throughout
the city and across the feminine hygiene industry who have expressed their love
and support. Topher is alert, coherent and has less cramping. He is continuing
to be evaluated and monitored."
And on Tuesday, Burt
McClain of the Walpole Chronicle reported that Topher was cleared to return
home from the hospital. Additionally,
McClain reports that Topher is expected to miss this week's game due to ‘an
overwhelming need to be spooned throughout the day and especially while in the
locker room’.
That timeframe could
obviously change based on how Topher feels (or if he gets hormone replacement
surgery) but for now it appears Topher has got a pretty good bill of health and
has managed a very quick recovery.
