Where Are They Now - Hockey Now Magazine

By Dusty Monahan
Hockey Now Magazine (HNW)

We recently caught-up with hockey great Chris Eighmy, former captain of the Provo Penguins, on his boat on Franklin Lake. With fishing rods in-hand, we discussed everything from his career with the Penguins to life after hockey. Since retiring from hockey, Chris has been busy with family and fishing.

HNW – So how is life after hockey?

Chris – I really can’t complain. For the first time in my life I’m relaxing and enjoying my family. It was tough before now. A life in the NESHL is demanding, and it takes its toll on one’s family life.

HNW – What is a typical day like?

Chris – You are looking at it [laughs]! I’m really kicking back and relaxing. Fishing has been something I put off for years, so I’m taking full advantage of it. Besides, I just ended my career yesterday.

HNW – Was it a tough transition? It seems some players have trouble adjusting to civilian life.

Chris – Again…I retired yesterday. So I have had no trouble transitioning. I'm just enjoying the day really.

HNW – How is your family adjusting to your retirement?

Chris – Honestly, I just retired yesterday. I don’t think Amy [wife] even knows I retired yet. Perhaps we can talk about fishing or somethings?

HNW – There are rumors that you may come out of retirment and back into hockey. Is there any truth to this?

Chris – Ummm…I haven’t even left yet you dumb-ass! I just told you three times I JUST retired yesterday. How can I possibly think of a comeback?

HNW – It seems a little like Brett Farve, in that you will make multiple comebacks after retirement. What do you say when you hear things like this?

Chris – Look here mother-[expletive]! I’m going to kick your [expletive] ass if you don’t shut your mouth about coming out of retirement. Shut the [expletive]-up! [Drops fishing rod and picks-up an oar with both hands]

HNW – What do you think the players will think when you come out of retirement? Do you think they will greet you with open arms, or will there be resentment because you left them high-and-dry?

Chris – That’s it you stupid [expletive]! I’m going to kick your [expletive], [expletive], [expletive], ass! Die mother-[expletive], die!

Note: The interview was cut short, leaving all to wonder if Chris will come out of retirement or not. We can only wait and see if this Brett Farve mother-[expletive] is going to play mind games with the team, the league and its fans.
