BOSTON (WBZ) - The Provo Penguins made a trade just hours before the deadline Friday, acquiring forward John Wilmot from the Public Hockey League's (PBL) 'Dark Team' in exchange for a six-pack of Old Milwaukee and a pair of used skate-guards.
He played in 62 games with the Dark Team this season, scoring 0 goals and 0 assists.
He currently leads the PBL in falling down with 179 unassisted falls to the ice.
Wilmot is 58 years old.
He is so old he may have to form a separate line from the OML (Old Man Line) and form his own VOML (Very Old Man Line).
Wilmot has never played hockey in any other official capacity and will need help tying his skates.
Currently he skates while pushing a milk crate but by game day hopes to retire the double blade skates and move up to figure skates.
In the early 1940's he was the fourth-alternate on the Mexican ice-dancing team. He gave-up his dream when his male partner decided to skate with a female leaving him on the ice alone, cold and weeping.
52 years later he has decided to make a come-back.
He has a clean bill of health, other than pre and post-game cortisone shots.
He will be carpooling with the other geriatrics on the team, including; Bilbo, Lutfy, and Sherwood.
He wears a half shield and expects to have teeth for at least the first 3 games.
He will be available to play in May, with the start of the 2010 Summer Season if the nursing home will let him out.
Wilmot enjoys long walks on the beach, apprehending perpetrators, hanging out at doughnut-shops and tripping and slashing.
